Recommended New Initiatives
Leadership Institute for Motivation and High Performance – (See Attachment) – This initiative would be the umbrella structure for some of BBM/PISB’s current and future education components (Life Skills Training, Achievement Matters, Read & Rise, New Literacy, etc.). It is recommended that BBM/PISB established a first class Institute (in partnership with higher education institutions and the schools) in which the issue of individual and group motivation to learn become a focal point. The aim is to find answers as to how to effectively assist individuals to motivate themselves to become high performers in learning, working and becoming responsible citizenship. It is the understanding that high levels of motivation will yield high levels of effort which is necessary for high performance results. The unique feature of this Leadership Institute will be that teams of youth leaders will be heavily involved in all aspects of the Institute’s management and implementation.
Youth Leaders Force – A recommended new initiative will be the development of a powerful group of youth teams who will be highly trained to become a dominant force for positive actions in the city. These teams would take advantage of the training processes flowing out of the High Performance and Motivational Institute. They would become teams of leaders organized to perform various functions such as, serving as tutors of technology for elementary school-age children in partnership with the public schools. The youth would also transfer positive and empowering attitudes and values and establish themselves as positive role models for younger children and other peers. BBM/PISB would work to have other agencies establish like teams so as to create a large force of positively-oriented teams doing good for themselves, families and communities.
Here are some beginning thoughts regarding Bethel Business Machine’s (BBM) future as a successful and growing business which could have a return to it’s shareholders five or ten years from now.
I realize I have many deficiencies in regard to turning BBM into a profitable company. I need a Board of Directors with creative, talented and profit minded members who are not afraid of my vision (100 Black Men). I need a full time profit minded business administrator operations manager who can work a full (70 hours a week) as operations manager. To do this job right it will take an exceptional amount of time, especially at first - All day, many evenings and weekends. I am already pressed with business and church which suck up great portions of time. A good operations manager could take the lion’s share of the planning and operations work with BBM which would ease the strain. I would remain President/CEO or that to could be changed if necessary for success. The key is to take advantage of the strengths (and time) of all the players, employees, board members, Project Impact South Bend and any other volunteers. We could apply all the principles of Highly Successful People in this real world example. We might consider ourselves as “Teams of Managers” or the “Management Team” – (thinking creatively outside the box.
I think that we need to present a plan that can “transform” BBM/PISB. We should have as a goal for the company to be one of the outstanding inner city companies in the country in terms of services performed, lives improved, families strengthened, neighborhoods empowered. We can do this! Parts of the “Transforming Plan” might include the following elements:

Organizational Analysis - The new management team will need to immediately
gather and analyze all pertinent information regarding current
situations and past performances of the BBM/PISB. There must be a
thorough business plan review looking at current and past efforts, to
see what worked or didn’t and why. The team should interview current
president of BBM, all current employees and members of PISB to gather
insights and wishes of each member. The team needs to interview current
staff members (or former) to gather their views on products, services
and operations. This review could take at least four weeks with a
report due by the team to the Board. It is critical that the insights
of the past and present are part of the plans for the future.
